Friedemann Horn
Friedemann Horn has been active in the field of intellectual property for almost 30 years. As one of the founding partners of HKW Intellectual Property in Munich, he has a strong focus on helping Asian companies obtain effective and commercially meaningful patent protection in Europe and Germany. He advises clients on European patent strategy and prosecution with a practical understanding of the needs of technology-driven companies expanding into the German and European markets.
A graduate of the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Dortmund, Friedemann lived in Japan from 1996 to 2005. After working for several years at a patent law firm in Osaka, he founded Horn & Uchida Patent Translations Ltd., a company specializing in high-quality patent translations between Japanese and English. Owing to his long-standing professional ties to Japan, he is very familiar with the high level of responsiveness, precision and service that Asian clients expect in cross-border intellectual property matters.
Friedemann has extensive experience in prosecuting patent applications in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and software, in particular in semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence. He is also a frequent lecturer in Germany and abroad on German and European patent law and practice.
